EMU Communication Faculty Hosted a Conference on Human Rights

Within the framework of 10 December International Human Rights Day, Ceren Göynüklü, Human Rights Association representative, provided general information on the development of the concept of human rights and the intrusion of human rights in North Cyprus at a conference in EMU Faculty of Communication Green Hall.
A short film on human trafficking at South Cyprus was shown at the beginning of the conference which was organsied by the Center of Research and Communication for Peace.  Following the film, Ceren Göynüklü delivered a speech on the human rights. Göynüklü said that the concept of human rights was first mentioned in Magna Carta in 1215. However, this concept was not considered seriously until the 20th century.  Göynüklü added that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the most important document ever.
Göynüklü also stated that human trafficking in North Cyprus is among the most serious intrusions of human rights and added that the existing legal regulations are not enough to solve the problem. Göynüklü also said that intrusions regarding refugees, immigrants, women and social gender  in TRNC are amongst the human rights problems in North Cyprus. Göynüklü put forth that as the Association of Human Rights, they are trying to contribute to the solution of these problems.






Declaration of Human Rights in 24 Languages
Within the framework of the International Human Rights Day, the International Declaration of Human Rights in  24 different languages was exhibited in EMU Communication Faculty.
The exhibition also featured 20 caricatures which were exhibited during the international exhibition of United Nations in Vienna. Within the framework of the activity, the students were invited to write ‘New Rights’. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanife Aliefendioğlu, who organised the exhibition and activities, said that they chose the national and local languages of the students studying in EMU and that their aim is to raise awareness in the declaration of human rights.
